Manila, Philippines — In a major step toward increasing vaccination coverage nationwide, the Department of Health (DOH) announced the expansion of vaccination sites to malls, bus terminals, airports, and other high-traffic public areas.
The initiative, launched in April 2025, is part of the DOH’s strategy to make healthcare more accessible and convenient for every Filipino, particularly in preparation for potential surges of COVID-19 variants, influenza, and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
"Health should meet people where they are," DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa emphasized during the official launch. "By bringing vaccines closer to daily life — to where people shop, travel, and commute — we remove many barriers to protection."
Aside from COVID-19 booster shots, these expanded sites also offer free immunizations for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), human papillomavirus (HPV), and seasonal flu vaccines. The mobile vaccination hubs will particularly focus on provinces and underserved areas, using pop-up clinics and mobile health units.
The program is a public-private partnership with shopping mall chains, transport companies, and local government units (LGUs), ensuring wider reach and faster deployment.
Why This Matters:
Vaccination remains one of the most effective public health interventions to prevent outbreaks and save lives. By making vaccines more accessible, the DOH hopes to close the immunization gap caused by the pandemic and boost the country's overall health resilience.
Citizens are encouraged to check their local LGU social media pages and the DOH's official channels for schedules and vaccine availability at participating locations.
The Big Picture:
Over 300 new vaccination points expected nationwide
Transport hubs like PITX, MRT/LRT stations, and bus terminals now have immunization booths
Shopping malls in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao are among the first to join
Mobile clinics to serve far-flung barangays and indigenous communities
The DOH aims to achieve a minimum 85% vaccination coverage rate for priority vaccines by the end of 2025 — a critical milestone toward ensuring universal health care (UHC) for all Filipinos.
Get vaccinated, protect yourself, and protect your community!
